The foundation of Whirlpool

Whirlpool has been around for more than 100 years. The company makes, among other things, highly efficient white goods such as cookers, fridge-freezers, fridges, ovens and much more. Whirlpool is among the largest on the market in the USA, but here in Denmark, Whirlpool is not among the best known.

Whirlpool has not been the appliance manufacturer's name from the start. In 1911, the foundation stone for Whirlpool was laid in Michigan USA and the original name was Upton Machine Corporation. The company produced electric washing machines and wringers. In 1950, the company changed its name to the well-known Whirlpool Corporation.

Whirlpool gained a firm position as market leader throughout the 00s, among other things with a wide range of innovative products. Today, the company has more than 60 different production facilities and technological research centers worldwide, with as many as 80,000 employees.

Whirlpool is in favor of green appliances

Whirlpool was the first appliance manufacturer to commit to the environment and announce specific targets for reducing greenhouse gases. The goal was successful and in 2007, the company's activities released around 90 fewer toxic chemicals than in 1987, at the same time that the production of white goods had increased by around 80 percent.
