Washing machine trips relay or blown fuse

Step 1:

Often the error will be due to a faulty heater. Some washing machines have programs for cold washing, if your washing machine has it, you can test whether the fault is in the heating element by running a cold water programme. If the washing machine can complete the program, you have found the fault with great certainty. If it is the heater that causes the relay to switch off, it will switch off very shortly after starting a wash.

Step 2:

If there is a fault on the engine. This is less common than the heater, but it may well be the cause of the error. The relay will trip shortly after starting if this is the problem.

Step 3:

The error may be due to a defective door lock. The door lock is an electric locking device which is located on the inside of the handle. If the relay switches off immediately (in the same second) after the power is connected, it may be a sign of a faulty door lock.

Step 4:

The error may be due to a defective drain pump. If it is the drain pump that is at fault, the machine will run for a good while, and it is only when it has to pump water out that the relay switches off.

Step 5:

The error can also be caused by a leak. Eg. in a pack or tube. The relay will typically trip when water runs into an electrical component, as this results in a short circuit. Look to see if you can see water leaking out somewhere, or if there is a place on the floor where water is lying.
