Microwave gives shock

If your microwave is making shocks, the cause may be one of the following:

Your microwave will typically shock if the ground connection does not exist, and the current will instead run through the metal itself in the microwave. Be careful as in some cases the microwave will have enough voltage to kill.

• Most white goods now come with pre-assembled molded plugs which cannot be checked. Check with a meter for continuity in the plug. If it doesn't work, we recommend getting hold of an expert.
• If your microwave shocks, it may be because the switch is not properly grounded. We recommend that you contact an electrician to look at your contacts, as you can be seriously injured if you do not know what you are doing.
• If your microwave is connected to an extension cord, it can also cause problems if the extension cord has problems. Try to change the extension cord but be sure that it is an extension cord that is made for appliance voltages and that the extension cord supports ground connections. You can also plug the microwave into a wall outlet to check if the problem has resolved itself. We recommend starting by checking for continuity on the ground switch and a metal plate on the microwave itself.
