Installation of washing machine

If you want to install your new washing machine yourself, here are some good tips and instructions.

Remove the transport bracket and screws

The transport brackets are screwed into the machine to prevent damage during transport. There are usually two or four of these fuses in a new washing machine, and you can easily remove them yourself.

If you fail to remove the transport brackets, the washing machine will make an awful lot of noise and jump around on the floor - especially during the spin cycle. In the worst case, the machine breaks down completely.

On newer machines, there may also be a flamingo block under the machine that must be removed. Read the user manual, it says exactly how to remove the transport bracket and screws.

Place the machine on firm ground and level

If you place the machine on an uneven or too soft surface, it will move and make noise during centrifugation. The very best is tiles or another hard floor.

If it is on a wooden floor, it must be ensured that the floor is completely stable. This can possibly be done by placing a plate or tile under the machine, on which all 4 legs can stand, so that the machine's weight is distributed over a larger area, rather than if the feet are, for example, only standing on 2 of the floor's wooden boards. This will cause vibrations and a lot of noise in connection with centrifugation. The same applies if the machine is mounted on a landing, or in a wash cabinet on a worktop, which can cause small vibrations.

When you have put the machine where it should stand, find a spirit level and make sure it is completely level. The inclination of the washing machine must not exceed 1° and all four feet must be firmly on the surface. Make sure that the legs are screwed as far up into the machine, and thus as short as possible, as this reduces vibrations during use. Straighten the legs until they stand as they should.

Remember to tighten the safety nuts

On many machines, there are safety nuts that must be screwed up against the machine to ensure that the adjustment of the legs does not come loose after prolonged use of the machine.

Fit the front edge when mounting on a landing

If the washing machine is mounted on a landing, make sure to install a front edge strip on the landing so that the machine's feet cannot move over the edge and cause the machine to fall. The right of complaint does not cover damage caused by the machine moving during use when it is mounted on a landing.

Make sure there is air in the sides

Make sure the machine has air around it. It is unavoidable that the machine vibrates a little when spinning, so make sure there is approx. 2.5 cm of air on each side.

Connection of water

If the machine is located in a place without a drain in the floor, we recommend that you connect the washing machine with a hose with an aquastop (a water trap that sits on the inlet hose that can automatically shut off the water if a leak of water is detected).

Connecting the drain hose

To avoid a so-called siphon effect on the drain, it is important that the drain hose is installed correctly. This is done by mounting it approx. 80-90 cm above floor height, so that the hose ends above the water level. This is done e.g. by inserting the hose into a loose-fitting plastic pipe which is installed in the drain. A support bracket is often included with the washing machine, which can be used.

Be sure to ensure that if the machine is raised on a landing, the drain hose must be mounted correspondingly higher from the floor.

Also ensure that the drain hose is fitted loosely and not attached around the drain pipe so that it closes tightly. In that case, the drain pipe will just act as an extension and you will experience negative pressure problems.

Connection of electricity

As a starting point, a washing machine comes with a 2-pin Schuko power plug, which does not have the third pin for ground connection, which we typically use in Denmark. However, it is important that you connect the washing machine to earth and you can do this in two ways. Either by buying an adapter (Can be bought here or at most hardware stores), or you can put a brand new 3-pin plug on the cord.

ATTENTION: In several new houses there is currently a provision for grounding using a schuko plug. In that case, your socket will look like this, with hoops at the top and bottom of the plug, which thereby create the earth connection to the Schuko plug:

If you do not connect the machine to ground, there will most likely be problems with operation and it may be able to emit shocks when touched.

The first wash

There may be water in your machine, even if it is brand new from the factory. This is because the factory always runs a test before they send it off to the store. The small amount of water should be washed out by starting, an empty machine, by a quick wash with a small amount of detergent in it.

It is also during the first wash that you find out whether the water supply is correct and whether the machine can run and is generally set up correctly. You are therefore welcome to stay by the machine while you run the first wash.
