Step 1:
If your dishwasher makes noise or howls, it may be because the rinse arm or the rinse pump is clogged. The rinse pump ensures that water is pumped up into the rinse arm of the dishwasher. If something is stuck here, a howling sound can occur. Food residues can get stuck in the nozzles of the spray arm. Clean the spray arm and the spray pump by rinsing them with warm water. If there are objects; remove them carefully. You can use a toothpick for the small holes in the spray arm. If the spray arm or the spray motor/pump is worn or defective, replace these.
Step 2:
If your dishwasher makes noise or howls, it may be because something is stuck in the drain pump or drain hose. You can clean the drain hose by rinsing it with warm water. The drain pump is located at the bottom of the dishwasher. You must turn the filter unit, which sits at the bottom of your dishwasher, so that it loosens and can be easily removed. Down in the hole you will find your drain pump. There may be a small latch that you can grab and remove to get to your drain pump. From above you can see if there is something in the drain pump. The small propeller should be easy to turn with your finger. If something is stuck, remove it carefully. If nothing is stuck or pinched, it may be the drain pump that has broken.
Step 3:
If your dishwasher makes noise (knocking noise) during washing, it may be because the spray arm is hitting the crockery. If the crockery is not placed correctly, it can also be moved around during washing. Reposition the dish and continue the current program. It may also be because there is not much crockery in the dishwasher. This can cause the water jet from the spray arm to hit the sides of the dishwasher, and therefore make noise. It may also be that the spray arm has become crooked, so that it therefore flushes incorrectly and thus makes noise. You can try to fix the arm, but it may also need to be replaced.
Step 4:
If your dishwasher makes noise, it may also be because the drain pump is pumping without water. Then you will hear a humming sound. If the dishwasher tries to pump out water without success, it may be due to a faulty pressure switch. The pressure switch, also called the level control, is typically integrated into the water chamber, which sits on the side of the dishwasher. The level control ensures that the dishwasher takes in the correct amount of water.
